The Aireys Inlet and District Association (AIDA) is a voluntary organisation that aims to conserve the natural environment and special character of the low-key coastal communities that lie between Eastern View and Urquhart Bluff, and of the adjacent hinterland, as the area develops and changes.
For about 60 years, AIDA has been protecting the natural beauty and character of our settlements, hinterland and coastal environments. AIDA’s 500+ members are its strength, giving it a strong voice to advocate for the preservation of our area.
AIDA works with the Surf Coast Shire, policy makers, landowners and the local community to make sure that the coastal village character of its settlements, with housing nestled amongst trees, is preserved and that any land-use change or development is sympathetic to the natural environment and its fauna and flora.
AIDA: How it works
AIDA’s committee meets monthly to discuss local issues such as tourism, parking problems, signage, and pathway and road surfacing, and recent council activities, proposed strategies or plans. The committee also reviews all local planning permit applications to the shire. If the application fails to meet the shire’s planning guidelines, AIDA lodges an objection.
AIDA works constructively with the shire when policies are being developed or reviewed; its views are respected and valued. AIDA also liaises with bodies such as the CFA, GREAT Ocean Coast and Parks Authority, Barwon Water, Forest Fire Management and Department of Transport. AIDA is also a member of the Great Ocean Road Communities Network, which shares information about issues, policies and strategies of common interest among communities along the Road.
AIDA members are kept informed through quarterly newsletter, occasional emails and surveys.
AIDA committee members can be contacted via the Contact Us page. Enquiries are welcome.
