At the 2018 AGM it was agreed that in future AIDA will hold a community meeting in January each year. The first such meeting, held on Tuesday 8 January 2019 at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club, was a Community Forum “Will Tourism Kill the Great Ocean Road?” to which everyone in the community was welcome. The main speaker was Colleen White, Regional Director, Barwon South West DWELP (Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning). The forum also included discussion of the state government’s recently released Great Ocean Road Action Plan and future planning for the Aireys Inlet and District community and environment, and the impacts of recreation and tourism. The discussion following the presentations was very lively and the questions were broad ranging. It was evident there is general concern about the potential numbers and impacts of tourists.
