The Surf Coast Shire recently invited input from the local community on the above study. To quote the Shire:
‘Tell us what you love about the Painkalac Creek and your hopes for the creek’s future.’
‘Knowing what you want to protect and why helps us plan for the future.’
Members and residents will be able to complete an online survey on:

The survey will be open until 24 April 2025.
Alternatively, member and residents can pass their thoughts onto council staff in Aireys Inlet on Thursday 27 March 2025 at the following times and locations:
9:30 – 10:30 am Aireys Inlet Top Shops
12:00 – 1:00 pm Aireys Inlet Bottom Shops
3:00 – 4:00 pm Aireys Inlet Community Hall
To again quote the Shire ‘The information you provide will feed into our modelling of future flood risk. This will lead to a range of options to manage flooding of the Painkalac Creek. Later this year we will show you the options and get your thoughts on which ones you think would suit best.’
Members may wish to point out to the Shire that improving the management of wetlands in the Painkalac Valley would be one way of mitigating flood risk. So would the adoption of Water Sensitive Urban Design principles into our stormwater management. Members should also ask to see the Aireys Inlet and Fairhaven Drainage Study which should form an integral part of the Painkalac Creek Estuary Flood Mitigation and Adaption Study.
