In this long-exposure photograph by AIDA member Perry Gaylard, the Split Point Lighthouse is lit by moonlight and the Southern Cross star constellation is visible just below and to the right of the “collar” of the Lighthouse.
Perry has also produced a web page that describes the history of the Spit Point Lighthouse and the adjacent Lighthouse Keeper’s cottages, which date from 1891. The web page also shows a number of photographs of the interior of the lighthouse and of views from the top.
As Perry reports, the Split Point Lighthouse has featured in a book (Arthur Upfield’s novel “The New Shoe”) as well as television shows and films (for example Boney, based on “The New Shoe”, Homicide, “The Decimal Point”(1965), Alpha Scorpio (1974), Mad Max (1979), Dead Man’s Float (1980), Around the Twist (1989 – 2001) and the Bollywood Movie” Salaam Namaste” (2005)).
The photographs below were taken from the balcony at the top of the lighthouse by AIDA committee member Gary Johnson.
