The Surf Coast Shire has advised that community engagement on preliminary streetscape layout options has been delayed until the start of the new year. The delay has been caused by protracted negotiations with road transport authorities regarding car access and parking issues. Members will be very aware of the lack of vehicle parking at the Top Shops during peak times over summer. They will also be aware of difficulties leaving the carpark. These problems should certainly be given proper consideration as part of the overall project.
On a brighter note the Aireys Inlet Tourism and Traders Association and AIDA have been successful in obtaining funding for an Information Hub at the Top Shops. The grant application describes the project as follows:
This project will enhance community information sharing, sustainable tourism and local way finding by installing a community-supported, local artisan designed information hub. Located at the Aireys Inlet Top Shops the hub features a bespoke notice board, seating and indigenous plantings. It will display events, community safety info (e.g. AEDs, patrolled beaches, bushfire last resort locations), facilities information (parking, public toilets), local history and activities and QR codes that link to relevant online resources including walking trails and First Nations information. The hub will be designed for accessibility. This project aligns with the council’s Aireys Inlet Top Shops Design Improvements project.
A joint Project Management Committee has been formed, and work has begun designing the hub. Whilst this project is separately funded to the Top Shops Design Improvements it will eventually be integrated into that project.
